About the Australian Embassy in Laos
The Australian Embassy in Vientiane is Australia’s resident diplomatic mission in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
The Embassy represents the Australian Government and supports the relationship between Australia and Laos across diplomacy, development cooperation, trade, education, security and people-to-people links.
The mission also provides consular assistance to Australians in Laos, Australian passport services and eligible notarial services.

The Australian Embassy in Vientiane provides consular assistance, Australian passport services and eligible notarial services.
Consular assistance
Australians living in or travelling through Laos can seek consular assistance from the Embassy during business hours in accordance with the Australian Government’s Consular Services Charter.
Australian passports
Passport services are available by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Embassy prefers passport applications to be submitted in person, although postal lodgement may be possible after contacting the Embassy first.
Notarial services
Eligible services include Certificates of No Impediment to Marriage, certifying copies and photographs, witnessing signatures, certification of identity and legalising eligible documents.
Visa and immigration enquiries: Australian visa and immigration services are separate from the Embassy’s consular and passport services. The Embassy directs visa and immigration enquiries to the appropriate Australian immigration services.

Passport and notarial services are available by prior appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.

Passport collections are normally available from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, excluding Embassy public holidays.
Postal passport applications: the Embassy states that mailed applications may be possible but asks applicants to contact the mission before sending one. Personal lodgement remains the Embassy’s preferred method.
