About the Australian Embassy to the Holy See
The Australian Embassy to the Holy See represents the Australian Government in its diplomatic relationship with the Holy See.
Australia and the Holy See established diplomatic relations in 1973. Australia initially maintained a non-resident Head of Mission to the Holy See, supported by diplomatic representation in Rome. In 2008, Australia announced the appointment of its first resident Ambassador to the Holy See.
The Embassy works to strengthen Australia’s relationship with the Holy See and supports dialogue on international and humanitarian issues, including peacebuilding, human rights, institutional safety, humanitarian assistance and challenges affecting communities in the Pacific.
