About the mission
About the Australian Embassy in China
The Australian Embassy in Beijing is Australia’s resident diplomatic mission in the People’s Republic of China and represents the Australian Government in its official relationship with China.
The Embassy supports Australia’s bilateral engagement with China across diplomatic, economic, trade, education, cultural and people-to-people relations.
Australia’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China is Mr Scott Dewar, a senior career officer with the Australian Public Service who has previously served in China and speaks Mandarin.
The Embassy in Beijing forms part of a wider Australian diplomatic and consular network in China, alongside Consulates-General in Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Australians requiring advice or assistance can contact the Embassy’s Consular Section during business hours. Urgent assistance is also available outside normal hours through the Australian Government’s Consular Emergency Centre.

Australian passport applications can be lodged at the Embassy. Standard applications must generally be submitted in person and require an appointment.
Notarial services
The Embassy provides eligible notarial services for Australian documents and other documents intended for use in Australia. These services are available by appointment.
Passport processing: passports are printed in Australia. The Embassy advises applicants to allow approximately six weeks from payment and to apply well ahead of planned travel.

Appointments at the Australian Embassy in Beijing
Standard Australian passport applications must be lodged in person at the Embassy and require an appointment.
Passport application appointments are offered Monday to Friday. The Embassy advises that appointment availability can be booked out up to eight weeks in advance, so applicants should plan well ahead.
An appointment is not required to collect a completed passport or to lodge an emergency passport application.
Notarial services are also available by appointment. Current published service hours are Monday to Friday from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
Plan ahead: select the correct appointment type for your application. Each passport applicant requires the appropriate booking, and incomplete applications can delay processing.
