About the Australian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates
The Australian Embassy in Abu Dhabi is Australia’s resident diplomatic mission to the United Arab Emirates.
The Embassy advances Australia’s diplomatic, security, trade, investment and broader bilateral interests in the UAE and supports the relationship between the Australian and Emirati governments and communities.
Australia also maintains an Australian Consulate-General in Dubai. Together, the two posts provide diplomatic, commercial, passport and consular services across the United Arab Emirates.
Australia’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates is Mr Ridwaan Jadwat, who also serves as Australia’s Special Envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Authorised consular officers provide eligible Australian notarial services, including certain document legalisation, certification, declarations, oaths and signature witnessing services.
Visa and citizenship matters: the Embassy does not provide general assistance with individual Australian visa or citizenship applications. These matters are administered by the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

Before visiting the Australian Embassy
Check whether your passport application can be submitted remotely and prepare all required documents before attending an appointment.
Check mail eligibility
Eligible adult passport renewal applications can be mailed, couriered or delivered to the Embassy. Certain child renewal applications for children aged 15 or younger who have held a previous passport can also be submitted this way.
Attend when required
Applicants aged 16 or older are generally required to attend a passport interview in person. First-time child applications and applications for children aged 16 or 17 must also be lodged in person.
Prepare for card payment
The Embassy does not accept cash for notarial services. Eligible credit or debit cards can be used, but American Express is not accepted.
Passport processing: allow at least six weeks to receive a new Australian passport. Priority processing is not available for passport applications lodged overseas.
Urgent travel: if you have urgent travel and cannot wait for a full-validity passport, you may be eligible for an Emergency Passport. Contact the Embassy or Consulate-General for advice before attending.
Notarial documents: determine the exact service required before your appointment and bring the original documents and suitable identification. Some services have specific Australian legal requirements that consular officers must follow.
