About the Australian Embassy in Vietnam
The Australian Embassy in Hanoi is Australia’s resident diplomatic mission to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The Embassy supports Australia’s relationship with Vietnam across diplomacy, trade and investment, development cooperation, education, defence and security and extensive people-to-people links.
Australia and Vietnam established diplomatic relations in 1973. The bilateral relationship was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024.

The Embassy processes Australian passport applications. Depending on the application type and eligibility, an application may be lodged by mail or may require an in-person passport interview.
Notarial services

Passport and notarial appointments in Hanoi
The Passport and Notarial counters at the Australian Embassy in Hanoi are open from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm on Mondays and from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays, excluding public holidays.
Passport and notarial services are strictly by appointment. Clients without an appointment will normally be seen only in exceptional circumstances.

Before visiting the Australian Embassy
Check whether your passport application qualifies for mail lodgement before booking an appointment in Hanoi.
Check your application type
Some Australian passport renewals can be lodged by mail. Other applications require the applicant to attend a passport interview at the Embassy.
Child renewals by mail
Applicants aged up to 15 years who have held a previous Australian passport may be eligible to submit their passport renewal application by mail.
Prepare your documents
Follow the current Australian Passport Office instructions carefully and provide any original or certified supporting documents required for your particular application.
Mail applications: eligible applications can be sent to the Passport Section, Australian Embassy Hanoi, 8 Dao Tan Street, Hanoi, Vietnam. Do not send the applicant’s previous physical passport unless specifically instructed to do so.
Child passport return: for eligible child renewals lodged by mail, the new passport can be returned by EMS to the postal address provided on the application.
Payment: for eligible mailed child renewal applications, the Embassy contacts the applicant regarding payment after receiving a complete application. Current instructions provide for online payment in Australian dollars using Mastercard, Visa or American Express.
Emergency passports: emergency passports may be available when urgent travel is required. The Embassy advises that they are generally issued within two working days, although individual circumstances can result in longer processing.
