About the Australian Embassy in Nepal
The Australian Embassy in Kathmandu is Australia’s resident diplomatic mission to Nepal.
The Embassy represents the Australian Government and supports relations between Australia and Nepal across diplomacy, development cooperation, trade, education and people-to-people links.
It also provides consular assistance to Australians in Nepal, Australian passport services and eligible notarial services.

Consular assistance
Australians living in or visiting Nepal can contact the Embassy for consular assistance in accordance with the Australian Government’s Consular Services Charter.
Australian passports
The Embassy provides Australian passport services. Eligible applicants in Nepal may be able to use the current digital document upload process, while applications that do not meet the eligibility requirements require different lodgement arrangements.
Notarial services
Eligible Australian notarial services are available by appointment. Fees apply to services such as witnessing signatures and certifying copies of documents.
Visa and citizenship matters: staff at the Australian Embassy in Nepal cannot assist with Australian visa or citizenship enquiries. These matters are administered through the Australian Government’s immigration system.
Visitor arrangements
Appointments at the Australian Embassy in Kathmandu
Normal passport interview appointments are available from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday, excluding Embassy public holidays.
One appointment should be booked for each passport application when an in-person passport interview is required.
Appointments are also required for all notarial services.
Passport applications: check the Embassy’s current passport instructions before booking an appointment. Eligible applicants may be able to use the digital upload process instead of following the standard in-person procedure.

Payment methods depend on the service and application pathway. The current digital passport process uses credit card payment in Australian dollars, while the Embassy publishes separate payment instructions for notarial services.
Digital passport applications: eligible applicants using the Embassy’s digital upload process can submit the application form, supporting documents and a digital photograph electronically. Once finalised, the new passport can be delivered to the applicant’s nominated address in Nepal.
Urgent travel: applicants requiring an emergency passport are not eligible to use the digital upload process and should contact the Embassy directly.
